The Original Angry Birds is Getting Delisted from Google Play Store

The Original Angry Birds game is getting delisted from the Google Play Store and it’s getting renamed on the App Store.

Angry Birds has existed as one of the most popular gaming franchises to ever exist, but it would appear that Rovio, the developers, think that the original might be just a little too popular. The original Angry Birds was released back in 2009 and has been a mainstay in gaming culture ever since, even spawning a film adaptation. There have been numerous versions of the game and a variety of sequels and spin-offs, but the original has proved to be far too popular to remain as it is on the Google Play Store and the App Store because it has been cannibalizing Rovio’s other sales.

This news was announced by Rovio via Twitter, and the company declared that the game, which has been named Rovio Classics: Angry Birds for some time on these platforms will be delisted and/or renamed. The original game will entirely vanish from the Google Play Store, but it will remain on the App Store. On the App Store, Angry Birds will be placed under a new name. That new name is an immensely boring title because it’s now going to be called Red’s First Flight. It’s much worse than the original name, but hey, that’s probably the point.

This decision appears to have been made because the original Angry Birds game has been drawing attention away from Rovio’s newer games. It isn’t very often that you hear about a game so popular that it manages to derail the efforts of the company that made it a whole ten years later. The announcement post on Twitter wishes all fans well and explains Rovio’s gratitude, but that it hopes players will enjoy the other Angry Birds games that it has on display on those storefronts. This decision will go into effect from 23 February 2023.
