Internet darling Henry Cavill will now be in a Warhammer 40,000 adaptation rather than The Witcher or Superman. It has been an up and down rollercoaster for the last month as the former Superman and Geralt actor departed each role under differing circumstances, but he’s bounced back to instead star in whatever Amazon Studios decides to do with its acquisition of the “first-of-its-kind” rights to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.
This news was announced via the official Warhammer Community website, and it comes hot off the heels of Cavill’s departure from Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher and the announcement that he will not be returning to play Superman, which had been the whole reason he left The Witcher, or at least it was the stated reason. Furthermore, it has been announced that regardless of the Superman thing, he isn’t going to return to The Witcher at all. So, we shouldn’t have any hope for that happening again, but he will at least be in the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 adaptation.
The adaptation will be headed up by Amazon Studios and Games Workshop, the company that produces the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. Aside from starring Cavill, it will also see him being placed in the role of executive producer because of his “lore expertise.” Hopefully, this means that he, as a fan of the franchise, will help ensure that this adaptation is faithful to the source material.
Cavill, a longtime Warhammer 40,000 fan, stated as part of the announcement: “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.”
We are still far from knowing any details about this upcoming Warhammer 40,000 project, but as Henry Cavill is involved, he will likely throw his nerdy all into it and give us a great performance.
