It has been confirmed that Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson will star as the leads in the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, a movie that was announced years ago. We still have no confirmation on who these actors will portray in the adaptation, but we do know that production is set to finally begin in February 2023 in New Orleans.
This news was announced in an exclusive report at Deadline, and it further elaborates that the film will be directed by Emma Tammi, who directed The Wind, and the animatronics will be designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which should ensure that they look great. Furthermore, the film will be written by Scott Cawthon, the designer of the games, alongside the director and Seth Cuddeback.
When it comes to the lead actors, Matthew Lillard is best known for Good Girls, Bosch, and for being the voice of Shaggy in the Scooby Doo franchise. Whereas Josh Hutcherson is best known for his performance in The Hunger Games, as well as other titles such as Across the River and Into the Trees and The Kids are All Right. However, these also aren’t exceptionally big-name actors, but for a franchise that does not have the same kind of reach as it used to have, that may be expected. Although, that isn’t to say that games in the franchise, like last year’s Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, aren’t still releasing.
It has been a long time since this Five Nights at Freddy’s movie was announced, but we should finally have the movie in a couple of years. Judging by the overall content of the games, this should be a more child-friendly horror film rather than the usual blood-and-gore fests many contemporary horror films tend to be. Hopefully, the studio can pull off child-friendly horror while maintaining a good overall horror experience.
