Have you ever wanted to play a video game in your car? Probably not a great idea seeing as it’s a bit of a safety hazard, but for the daredevils out there who also happen to have loads of cash, you can now do so if you have a Tesla because Steam integration has made its way to the electric car company’s products. The new Steam integration is in beta for the latest S and X models at the moment, but other models can be able to be retrofitted with it later down the line.
This news was revealed on the Tesla Twitter account, but Elon Musk has contributed to that initial announcement with various additional tweets. For instance, he claims that you can play Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and “1000s of other games in your *car* with epic sound system!!” That’s Musk’s use of asterisks and two exclamation marks there, not ours.
In addition, he also adds a few additional notes such as the fact that, even though the announcement video in the initial tweet states that there is wireless controller support, it also supports mouse and keyboard. And he also claims that it syncs with your Steam profile so you can pick up and play a game where you left off if you so desire.
You may be curious about the legality or wisdom of playing a game in your car when you should probably be focusing on the road, but that shouldn’t be a problem seeing as Teslas have self-driving functionality that never randomly stops on freeways and causes accidents. That has never happened! Aside from the few times that they have done that, but this isn’t actually cause for concern because a Tesla is not allowed to be in motion if a game is being played. So, you’ll definitely be sitting in a stationary car while playing a game.
However, if you have the cash for one of the latest Tesla models and you’d like to go and sit in your car rather than in the comfort of your own home while playing games, you can now do that. If it works on the Steam Deck, it will work in your parked Tesla.
