505 Games announced Czech studio Ingame Studios' upcoming game Crime Boss: Rockay City at The Video Game Awards on December 8th. Lead actor Michael Madsen was brought on stage to announce the game in a trailer that gave viewers a look at the star-studded cast.
Michael Madsen, who is best known for his role as Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs, plays the main character Travis Baker. Baker is a charismatic thief looking to climb the ranks of the Rockey City underworld. Rockey City is "a thriving metropolis with excitement buzzing from the sandy bay to the towering skyscrapers". However, after the death of the city's kingpin, Rockey City is up for grabs, and war is primed to break out on the streets.
Travis' "team of planners and handlers" is made up of famous faces. Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) plays Casey; The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Michael Rooker plays punk Touchdown and Danny Glover turns back the years to his Lethal Weapon days to play Florida policeman Gloves. Alongside them is The Flash actor Damion Poitier as Nasara.
The gameplay revolves around building Travis' criminal empire by stealing from and taking out the other gangs in Rockay City. Missions are "PvE co-op multiplayer and take on thrilling hits and heists with up to four players." But it won't be easy, standing in Travis' way are the other gangs of Rockay City. Players will have their work cut out "between Dollar Dragon, Heilo, Cagnali, and Khan [all] trying to take the city for themselves". Khan and Cagnali's actors have not been revealed, but Dollar Dragon and Heilo are played by Danny Trejo and Vanilla Ice respectively.
Trejo has plenty of experience transitioning from films to video games having voiced characters in the Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry, and Call of Duty: Zombies franchises. Vanilla Ice meanwhile is a 90s rapper best known for his catchy one-hit-wonder Ice Ice Baby and terrible feature film Cool As Ice. If the appearance of Vanilla Ice wasn't enough indication that Crime Boss: Rockay City was set in 1990s Florida, Hollywood tough-guy Chuck Norris plays the city's sheriff. Norris is a famous all-American action hero best known for playing tough cowboy types in the 1980s and '90s.
Crime Boss: Rockay City releases on March 28th, 2023 on the Epic Games store, and at a later date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
