Xbox Games Will Switch To A $70 Price-Tag From 2023

Microsoft has decided to hold out till 2023 to increase the base price of Xbox games to the new $70 average.

For years, $60 was the standard price for AAA games, but as one generation ended and another began, the shift to a $70 standard began. Many publishers embraced the new price, but Xbox did not. However, Xbox has finally decided that it’s time for its games to hit that new standard price tag too. Luckily, this change will only start from 2023, so at least everyone has the holidays to pay slightly less for their games.

A Microsoft spokesperson informed Eurogamer that: “We've held on price increases until after the holidays so families can enjoy the gift of gaming. Starting in 2023 our new, built for next-gen, full-priced games, including Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield, will launch at $69.99 USD on all platforms,” the spokesperson continued. “This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles. As with all games developed by our teams at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.”

Various other publishers started on the new standard at the beginning of the current console generation, but Xbox was one of the last to declare an increase to its prices. Judging by the statements made, this price increase will only apply to the bigger, AAA releases and not the games by smaller studies that Microsoft now owns through its many acquisitions.

This price increase was always going to happen, and there will doubtless be another price increase when the next console generation comes along, but at least the price should now remain stable for some time going forward.
