White Day: A Labyrinth Named School was first made by South Korean development studio Sonnori in 2001, remade by ROI Games and ex-Sonnori producer Lee-Won Sool for mobile in 2009, and then again for the PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015.
2022's White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a "contemporary reimagining" of the South Korean survival horror game, courtesy of London-based publishers PQube. It follows student Lee Hee-Min as he hides from murderous janitors and horrifying ghosts in a terrifying game of cat-and-mouse after becoming trapped inside Yeondu High School.
Originating in 1970s Japan, White Day is an East Asian holiday in which men show their appreciation of, or affection towards, the women in their lives by giving them gifts. Typically celebrated on March 14th in South Korea, it allows men to express their feelings and reciprocate affections shown to them on February 14th, Valentine's Day.
Trying to give his crush So-Young Han a White Day gift, Lee Hee-Min is trapped in his high school overnight. He comes across puzzles, ghosts, and other students as he unearths the mystery behind the school's homicidal staff.
With new visuals and audio; a new playable character called Yoo Ji-min; reimagined ghosts; and ten different endings, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School has all the qualities of the best survival horror games. Including puzzles, inventory management, limited resources, and plenty of scares. The game's Dynamic Score System can also be used to increase White Day's difficulty, adding a time limit, new scares, and even more ghosts.
White Day: A Labyrinth Named School releases on September 8th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
