Evil West is an upcoming third-person action game developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Focus Entertainment. Flying Wild Hog is best known for developing the fast-paced FPS series Shadow Warrior and black and white samurai side-scroller Trek to Yomi, and Focus Entertainment has previously published titles including Aliens: Fireteam Elite, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and Greedfall.
Evil West is a narrative-driven third-person action game that can be played both solo and in co-op. As a “Wild West Superhero” players must hunt and destroy the vampiric monstrosities that are feasting on humanity. Set on a stylized, bloody, American frontier, these cowboy vampire hunters are humanity’s last line of defense.
Combining the Western and Horror genres always produces unique and interesting results. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare for example saw citizens of the Wild West besieged by a zombie outbreak and tasked John Marston with hunting supernatural creatures like Sasquatch and the Chupacabra while riding across the desert on the Four Horses of the Apocalypse. Weird West, which was released earlier this year, is another dark fantasy game where cowboys share the frontier with monsters, this time as an isometric RPG.
Finally, consider Darkwatch, the game is an FPS from 2005 that follows a monster-hunting vampire cowboy on the 19th-century American Frontier. While that makes Evil West and Darkwatch sound similar, the resemblance is only surface level. Similarities between the two are inevitable, but Flying Wild Hog's new game should be viewed as a new addition to a unique, exciting Horror subgenre.
Evil West releases for PS4, PS5, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, and PC on September 20.
