Sony Buys Destiny Developer and Halo Creator Bungie

Sony owns Bungie

Bungie is one of the biggest independent game developers of all time, at least it was. Today Sony purchased the company for $3.6 billion.

Bungie,NoobFeed,

According to Games Industry Bungie will remain an independent subsidiary but run by SIE board of directors.

After the deal closes, Bungie will be "an independent subsidiary" of SIE run by a board of directors consisting of current CEO and chairman Pete Parsons and the rest of the studio's current management team.

Sony has said Bungie will remain a multiplatform studio, with the option "to self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play."

This is shocking considering Bungie has resisted attempts in the past to be absorbed. Not to mention Bungie found most of its success with the Microsoft-owned Halo franchise which the studio created then moved on to Destiny, with 343 Industries now heading Halo development. But perhaps this wouldn't be possible considering Microsoft now owns some of the biggest FPS games of all time, including Call of Duty after purchasing Activision Blizzard. Not a lawyer but Microsoft having Destiny 2 also will likely cause the US government to get involved.

As for now, it seems that Sony will allow all future Destiny content to be multiplatform.
