Square Enix has announced that the planned next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker, has been delayed a full two weeks: from November 23 to Dec 7. Early Access will also o move to Dec 3 to match the delay. Director Naoki Yoshida explained that the delay is due to numerous bugs and the quality assurance to make sure that they are fixed. One proposed idea was to postpone endgame trials and other fights as a later patch, however that would further disrupt the team’s greater workflow and scheduling.

It was further mentioned that Square Enix’s Board of Directors fully supported the delay due to Yoshida’s previous success; any other project would have been pushed out anyway, despite bugs. One of the past expansions, Stormblood, was notorious for server crashes and delays that held up the player base within the first two zones. By removing any game or server relation issues, Endwalker will hopefully avoid the same problems.
