Apple Blacklists Fortnite During Court Appeals Process

Fortnite not coming back to the iOS store for now

Epic Games vs. Apple has been a long and difficult battle but despite the courts ruling in Apple's favor, forcing Epic to pay 6 million USD, Apple decided to make an example of Epic Games. Deciding to blacklist Fortnite from the iOS market.

Fortnite,NoobFeed,

Apple lied. Apple spent a year telling the world, the court, and the press they’d "welcome Epic’s return to the App Store if they agree to play by the same rules as everyone else". Epic agreed, and now Apple has reneged in another abuse of its monopoly power over a billion users.

Late last night, Apple informed Epic that Fortnite will be blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem until the exhaustion of all court appeals, which could be as long as a 5-year process. pic.twitter.com/QCD7wogJef

This is only for the court appeals process, which can last up to 5 years according to Epic's Time Sweeney. This also means that Apple will take a small loss as they make 30% of all transactions made through their store and Fortnite is still one of the biggest games in the world. With the game meeting around $700 million from iOS over 2 years and without that platform that source of income is now gone.

After the whole case, one cannot blame Apple since they have full right to decide who can and cannot sell on their marketplace.
