Nintendo Will Continue To Support The 3DS Online Service

3DS online will continue despite production halting

Recently, Nintendo confirmed that the 3DS along with the 2DS production would cease. Many wondered if this meant the eShop for the consoles would end as well but Nintendo stated it'll continue.

Reported by Nintendo Life through Nintendo UK:

"We can confirm that the manufacturing of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has ended."

"Nintendo and third-party games for the Nintendo 3DS family of system will continue to be available in Nintendo eShop, on Nintendo.com and at retail."

"The existing library of more than 1,000 Nintendo 3DS games contains many critically acclaimed titles and can provide years of content to explore and enjoy."

"We currently have no plans to end any existing online services for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Online play and Nintendo eShop will continue to be available and it will be possible to access and redownload all previously purchased content in the foreseeable future."

Nintendo has continued online services for their discontinued consoles in the past but only after a certain point. We saw this with the Wii and DS consoles. But for now you can access all the free online services but I recommend you download any games you plan to keep. Once the service ends you won't be able to download them again.
