As players eagerly await the reveal of a price for the upcoming PlayStation 5, Sony keeps them waiting, not even hinting at a price range, though many have been rumored. However, it seems that one UK GAME retailer leaked a PS5 event for Wednesday, September 9. This information was reported by Express.

The Tweet, posted by the Guildford branch of the franchise, read: "Those awaiting preorders and have Ryi. Please standby for updates. PS5 have scheduled an announcement tomorrow, so things are about to kick off this week."

September 9 marks an important date for Sony, as it is the 25 year mark since the company launched the original PlayStation in North America. Additionally, since Microsoft recently revealed the price of their next generation Series X as $499, Sony will likely reveal their price in order to secure their seat in the 2020 'console war'.

Because no official announcement from Sony has mentioned this event, players should take this information with a grain of salt, no matter the signs pointing to a price reveal later this week.

PlayStation 5 Event, Rumor

On the other hand, GAME was not the only retailer to leak a PS5 event for this week; it was also referenced by the UK based SimplyGames. In an email to subscribers, the company mentioned that the PS5 would be available to pre-order "any day now."

"We are expecting the PlayStation 5 to be available for pre-order any day now, and you don't want to miss out on the next-generation of gaming. The PlayStation 5 may not go on general sale due to limited stock, so the only way to hear about when you can pre-order is by registering your interest."

However, a recent PlayStation blog post quickly doused these hopes, claiming that Sony would be spending the next few days showcasing their PSVR projects, rather than the PS5. Specifically, the post claimed: "To manage expectations, there'll be no PS5-related news."

Although this blog post may be referring to a lack of PSVR content for the PS5, there is still no confirming news one way or another. For now, players will have to wait at least 24 hours to see if Sony reveals anything new about their next generation console.
