"Once upon a time, there was a boy named Peet who slept peacefully. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a nightmare" (Neversong Official Website). Put yourself into the shoes of Peet, a young boy who has been trapped inside a coma. When he wakes up, his friends and family have mysteriously disappeared. Instead, he hears screams coming from the nearby Asylum, so he ventures forth to save the victims within. Along the way, he will encounter waves of monsters and even mentally crazed adults, who he has to fight directly or maneuver around.

While exploring the intricately designed asylum, players have the ability to learn more about Peet's past, including how he entered a coma in the first place, and what happened to his friends. Players are often given the option to travel a variety of paths through the asylum, running into puzzles and monsters as they do. However, Peet is not alone on this quest, he has a baseball bat for defense and what seems to be a helpful spirit, which is always by his side. Encounter the occasional friendly NPC along the way, and learn of their relationship to Peet, discovering what they may know about his family.

The soundtrack of Neversong, heard primarily throughout the game's trailer, accentuates the mystery and fear that Peet is experiencing, putting the players directly into his world. Peet will face new dangers around every corner, each one taking him closer to the screams deep within the asylum. Formerly dubbed "Once Upon a Coma," Serenity Forge has created six uniquely illustrated and intricate levels for players to explore, each with a foreboding atmosphere and art design.

Gamers will enjoy this new rogue-like, puzzle filled platformer because of its captivating story and environment. Neversong released primarily on PC back in May of 2020, and it is now making its way to console two months later. Reviews from Steam are mostly positive, and it received a 9/10 rating on the platform.
