In addition to the global COVID-19 pandemic race riots across the United States have been occurring. Due to this problematic situation, Sony has decided to postpone the PS5 event this June 4th to an unannounced date.

Sony,NoobFeed,

Sony made the announcement today on Twitter:

“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard,” the message from PlayStation read.

The widespread protests across the United States are in response to the murder of George Floyd. An unarmed black man who was killed by a police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd was pinned to the ground while the officer pressed his knee using his entire body weight on Floyd's neck who constantly yell out he couldn't breathe.

This is the best move for Sony considering the situation. Providing a large press conference during such a difficult time wouldn't look ideal for the company.

There's still going to be a PS5 event but no date has been provided.
