Monster Hunter: World Preview - New York Comic Con 2017

Monster Hunter: World is a heavily dense world full of powerful monsters that require not only teamwork but powerful weapons and resources

Dumped into a world full of massive beasts a swarm of Scout flies highlighted my path. Eager to find the beast my team and I rushed ahead and killed everything in our path. Once our primary target was seen, it was time for the real fight.

In the beginning stages not much coordination was needed, just rush in and kill as fast as possible. However, once I fought a much more dangerous creature things quickly shifted. Teamwork was necessary and lone wolfs were expendable. For example, during one of the harder monsters, one ally could mount the monster and stab the creature repeatedly while I and the other players provided support. This insanity was incredible, especially seeing the creature become more panic as the battle progressed. It was difficult to get accustomed to the controls, especially for characters with multiple ammo types.

Monster Hunter: World is proving that this long-standing franchise still has a lot of life left in it. The game definitely benefits from the graphical upgrade with beautiful landscapes. incredibly detailed monsters, and lush lighting.

Speaking of landscapes the environment plays a big role in how you travel and fight. Wide open deserts benefit hunters with ranged weapons while small swampy areas are ideal for melee combat. Surprisingly when I was fighting in the swamp I was slowed due to the depth of the water, adding another layer to the strategy.

When the demo was short it provides a summary of what we can expect from the final product. A heavily dense world full of powerful monsters that require not only teamwork but powerful weapons and resources. Hopefully, the controls become easier to use.

Monster Hunter World launches on January 26 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
