Resident Evil is best known for creating some of the greatest survival-horror games of all time. Recently Resident Evil has fallen on hard times, attempting to cater to action fans and as well as to their core audience. Some have worked to average acclaim, others fell harder than Aliens: Colonial Marines. Here are our top five worst Resident Evil games.

5. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

How do you sell a game for a full retail price but only give half the content, only feature one mode that was a mini-game in past titles. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D attempted to feature the addicting mercenaries mode from past games into a stand alone title. As a budget title this would’ve been an ideal distraction for 3DS owners but at full price it was worth it.

4. Resident Evil 5

After the massive success of Resident Evil 4 many looked forward to Resident Evil 5 to carry the torch. Instead of focusing on survival-horror Capcom decided to shift focus on action and boulder punching. It was a sad attempt of combination heavy action into the Resident Evil universe.

Combining first-person shooter and arcade-style light gun game this terrible excuse for a Resident Evil was poor excuse for a survival-horror game. Slow paced, a terrible story and miserable controllers playing this game was torture.

2. Resident Evil 6

What made Resident Evil 6 awful was the hope that Capcom learned from Resident Evil 5’ mistakes. While Leon Kennedy’s campaign was entertaining the other two, featuring Chris Redfield and Jake, were a waste of time. One-Third of the game was survival-horror and the rest, action. And not a good action game.

Perhaps one of the disappointing Resident Evil games of all time Operation Raccoon City was not only riddled with bugs, graphical issues but only gave players half of the game. Gamers were expected to pay for the other campaign, featuring surviving members of S.T.A.R.S., which featured the same bland environments and uninspiring objectives. It was a flawed and an insult to Resident Evil fans who purchased it.
