Top 5 Games of 2020 So Far

The best games of 2020 so far

By Grayshadow, Posted 27 Apr 2020

A lot of incredible games released this year and with so many people locked indoors this is the best time to experience them all. Here are our top 5 best games of 2020 so far.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps,NoobFeed,Moon Studios,

5. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

A worthy successor to Ori and the Blind Forest Moon Studios maintained the incredible visuals and atmosphere set by the first game. Adding a more robust combat system and a more forgiving checkpoint and save system. The technical problems at launch have been resolves thankfully and the overall experience provides an outstanding fantasy adventure that takes the player to a variety of diverse and whimsical locations as Ori attempts to save his sister from a deadly threat.

Journey to the Savage Planet,NoobFeed,

4. Journey to the Savage Planet

Typhoon Studio's Journey to the Savage Planet is a dark comedy venture as you extract alien resources on a foreign planet for a greedy corporation. All while learning that the planet itself has an ominous history with an alien explorer that met an unhappy end. It's not a challenging adventure but it's a funny one, as the protagonist slowly mutants into a powerful force and takes on dangerous creatures. Best of all there's an expansion out right now called Hot Garbage that adds even more resources that you can exploit for personal gain.

Journey to the Savage Planet is a short and funny adventure that doesn't try to take itself seriously.

DOOM Eternal,NoobFeed,id Software,

3. DOOM Eternal

Bethesda needed a win. After Fallout 76, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Fallout 1st the company fell from grace. DOOM Eternal was exactly what the publisher needed as it provided what fans wanted, a fast-pace bloody adventure as the Doom Slayer kills thousands of demons to save humanity. The campaign was a step-up from the 2016 reboot by giving players more boss encounters, a longer campaign, and providing extensive information about the Doom Slayer's origins and the world he's trying to save. While I personally wasn't a fan of the multiplayer the single-player was everything an FPS fan could hope for and more.

Persona 5 Royal,NoobFeed,Atlus,

2. Persona 5 Royal

An update of the already outstanding Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal adds even more quality content to this already extensive adventure. With new characters and a unique endgame palace, Joker and friends must take down a much greater threat and save the world not once but twice. It's extremely hard not to talk about Persona 5 Royal without diving into spoilers. With the developers encouraging multiple playthroughs of this 70 hours adventure with optional relationships that lead to exceptional side stories.

Those who played the original game will also be in for a treat. As the developers remixed the boss fights to keep veteran players on their toes. Persona 5 was already one of the best RPGs of this generation but Persona 5 Royal is even better.

Final Fantasy VII Remake,NoobFeed,Square Enix,

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Back in 2005 fans were greeted with one of the most amazing tech demos in gaming, featuring the iconic opening scene from Final Fantasy VII showing off the PS3's graphical capabilities. Since then fans have been begging Square Enix for a remake of Final Fantasy VII and it finally launched this year. The first part of this highly anticipated title had high expectations and for the most part, many were satisfied with the final result.

Many were expecting a 1-to-1 recreation of the original title but instead got a remake of the primary narrative. With the title slowly shifting from the original story to become something entirely new. For many, this was a pleasant surprise as it had something new to look forward to instead of relying on the 1997's story.

The gameplay was a major improvement as it refined Final Fantasy XV's combat system. Placing more focus on managing an ATB meter, switching between party members, and mobility so that players couldn't just use force and high levels to push forward. The only issue with Final Fantasy VII Remake is that we may have to wait decades for the next part. That sounds insane, but remember this is Square Enix. Just remember how long it took for Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy VII Remake to launch.
