Top Five Most Technically Flawed Games to Release this Generation

What games launched in horrible states?

By Grayshadow, Posted 28 Nov 2018

Fallout 76 has been one of the most infamous releases of 2018. However, it should be noted that Bethesda's latest title isn't the only game to release with massive technical issues. There are many games that released in unfinished states during this generation alone. Here are the top 5 most technically flawed games to release this generation.

GTA Online,NoobFeed,Rockstar Games,

5. GTA Online

There's a reason that Red Dead Online didn't launch alongside Red Dead Redemption 2When GTA Online first became available it was a nightmare. Players were unable to connect, suffered long wait times to get into matches, and server disconnects were frequent. Thankfully the core campaign was strong and Rockstar learned their lesson, prompting to release Red Dead Online as a beta instead of a full release to find any issues and ensure a more polished release.

Halo: The Master Chief,Collection,NoobFeed,343,Microsoft,

4. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

When Halo: The Master Chief Collection launched it was well-received, for its single-player. The multiplayer was a horrible mess, making near-impossible to play the game online. It was such a terrible launch that 343 Industries' Bonnie Ross offered a public apology for the game's issues and along with Microsoft provided gamers who purchased the game in 2014 a month of Xbox Live Gold, special avatar and nameplate, and a free and early copy of Halo 3: ODST for the Xbox One.

The issues would persist for years, with numerous patches attempting to resolve the game's massive issues. It's now playable but only after years worth of work.

Mass Effect Andromeda,NoobFeed,EA,BioWare,

3. Mass Effect: Andromeda

EA has become one of the most demonized companies in the gaming community for their obsessive use of loot boxes and their overuse in titles such as Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Need for Speed Payback,  turning Command and Conquer into a mobile game, and the marketing campaign for Battlefield V but one of the most infamous accomplishments was Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Once heralded as one of the greatest IPs in video games Mass Effect: Andromeda stabbed the acclaimed franchise in the heart. The core game suffered from a mediocre story unfit by Mass Effect standards but the technical issues were huge. Clipping characters, exploding vehicles, and so many issues preventing players from playing the title. It wasn't until Kotaku's Jason Schreier revealed the troublesome development of the title that fans became aware that Mass Effect: Andromeda was set up for failure.

Mass Effect: Andromeda would still sell strong but failing to meet expectations. This would cause the entire franchise to be put on hiatus.

Fallout 76,NoobFeed,Bethesda,

2. Fallout 76

Perhaps the biggest failures of 2018 and this generation Fallout 76 was sold to gamers as a premium early access title. Despite the marketing and PR campaign claiming the game to be one of Bethesda's most acclaimed and prized projects Fallout 76 launched in a buggy mess.

The core campaign lacked anything meaningful and eventually became a dry collection of MMO-style missions but the myriad of technical issues threw gamers over the edge. Before gamers tolerated the issues suffering from Bethesda, even the disaster launches of the PlayStation 3 versions of Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimbut now the company's reputation has been plummeting. People will no longer tolerate these technical messes from Bethesda and the company will have to do some serious work to win back the fans they've disappointed.

Assassin's Creed Unity,NoobFeed,Ubisoft,

1. Assassin's Creed Unity

One of Ubisoft's most infamous releases Assassin's Creed Unity's launched was a disaster. Released the same time as Assassin's Creed Rogue Assassin's Creed Unity was full of technical issues that hampered the overall experience. Players unable to climb certain areas, clipping enemies, and frame rate problems.

Ubisoft would go on to apologize and offer the game's post-launch content for free to everyone who purchased the game. Those who purchased the Gold Edition or season pass would get 1 of 6 free Ubisoft games to download. While Ubisoft hasn't released a game with this many issues server problems have become an increasing issue among the company with titles such as For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege suffering from launch day multiplayer issues.
