It's been less than a month ago that Mozilla released version 3.5 of their all popular browser, Mozilla Firefox. Now the compony is looking into Firefox 4.0. Right now the compony is struggeling to choose between the tabs-on-bottom and tabs-on-top (similar to Google Chrome) designs. Mozilla highlighted the following pros and cons for the tabs-on-top design:
Positives:
- Save Vertical Space
- Efficiency/Remove Visual Complexity – Right now the tabs have to be connected to something. So we are adding an extra visual element for them to connect to.
- Shorter Mouse Distance to Page ControlsNegatives:
- Breaks Consistency/Familiarity – Moving things confuses existing users.
- Title is MIA – With the space removed from the titlebar you only get the truncated version in the tab.
- Longer Mouse Distance to Tabs – Takes longer to mouse to a tab.
- Lost Space – Sandwiched in between the application icon and the window widgets you lose some space.
well, i move between tabs with ctrl+tab most of the time (not to mention i leave my mouse sensivity to high), so tabs "up there" wont be a problem. i just want to be able to use the "undo last closed tab" application.
@ BrunoBRS: You can do that!? Just shows you learn something new every day
@ canana: Oh dear! They're really making it hard to keep up!
I have the Firefox 3.5 beta 4 version nao.I really want to try 4.0.Thanks for the screenshots Kelaidis
ctrl + tab = moves to the right
ctrl + shift + tab = moves to the left
if you change the ctrl for an alt, you can move between windows, BTW ;)
Thanks for the info kelaidis :D Looking forward to see this one finally sets up :)
I don't use Firefox that much to really tell if what I'll be getting is a benefit or not.
It looks great and I'll definitely switch but Title is MIA :o Man! I need the page titles! Thanks for the update.
Looks nice! I'll surely use it once it will be a stable release, but 'till then I still have compatibility issues with my add-ons :(
i'm happy with the existing FF; let's see if the new one be better or not
