Sony's PlayStation 5 will be hitting shelves at some point during the 'holiday' season of 2020. Whilst it has not been confirmed by Sony, several publications are predicting a November release for the 5th iteration of the PlayStation console.
With a new console comes the hype of new games. The likes of PlayStation 1 had to create new IP's to help their launch, such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider and Ridge Racer. This was in direct competition to the already established Nintendo franchises, such as the iconic Super Mario.
Fast forward to 2020 and the gaming landscape is entirely different, with gamers having to shell out high prices for new titles? They want to invest in a series or IP that they are comfortable with and already know what they're likely in for. Now that PlayStation has it's own breadth of quality games with hardcore fanbases they can utilise these to ensure that the PS5 stands head and shoulders above the competition.
With that in mind, here's 5 Sequels We Need to See on PS5:
The Insomniac Games developed Spiderman title released in 2018 captured the thrill and experience of being the web-slinger perfectly. Having the ability to explore a fully open-world New York City that was packed to the brim full of collectables? Awesome. Utilising the graphical capabilities of the PS4 to produce one of the best-looking games on the system? Breath-taking.
The critical success of the game, coupled with the unique and well-paced story means that Spiderman 2 on the PS5 almost HAS to happen. Using the next-gen capabilities to fully immerse gamers into Spidey's universe would make this an almost unparalleled commercial success.
The genius behind Supermassive Games' Until Dawn is that it can be enjoyed by anyone who likes the horror genre. You do not need to be completely in-tune with the way gaming 'traditionally' works to enjoy the experience of this survival horror game. So, with Until Dawn slicing its own niche into the survival horror genre? There has to be a sequel to the now classic 2015 released game.
If you've been a fan of the Skate series then you've probably been calling out for this one for a very long time. Skate 4 is the game that skateboarding and extreme sports gamers have been clamouring for since the dawn of PS4. Now that we're ending the life cycle of the current gen the attention turns to the next-gen and the hope that EA will FINALLY decide to pursue another Skate game.
Nothing could touch Skate in terms of realism and control when it came to skateboarding titles. Sure, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was the pinnacle of skateboarding titles in the early 2000s, but when Skate appeared it brought a different layer of quality to the genre.
Hopefully, with the THPS Remaster coming this might convince EA to bring back the much-lauded series.
Although 'technically' Mass Effect: Andromeda was the 4th instalment in the series? Fans of the original Mass Effect trilogy would absolutely love the idea of bringing back Commander Shepard for one last run. The ending of Mass Effect 3 left a lot of the fanbase fuming, with the almost hashed attempt to shoehorn the player's experience in this vast franchise into three almost identical strands.
But (SPOILERS) if you finished the third game with a Renegade ending and you had completed some requisite tasks? You would see a short scene where Shepard seemingly 'breathes' back into life.
That's good enough reason for me to make sequel.
This is quite a controversial choice. If you've been fan of tactical espionage action since the PS1 (or earlier) you will know that the Metal Gear Solid games are some of the most creative and dynamic experiences in gaming. The difficulty will be taking on the project without the great Hideo Kojima at the helm.
That doesn't stop another creative force from taking the reins and moving the series in another direction. So why don't they?
