The world as we know it is changing. We see evidence of that in everyday life. Whether it is computers, cell phones or televisions, we definitely know that the tech we use won’t be the same as they used to be. As 2012 has just arrived, I make my predictions of what I expect to see in the upcoming year.
This was originally supposed to be one blog but I have decided to make this a series of more detailed articles about each of my original predictions of 2012. Stay tuned for my upcoming predictions!
It is obvious that Microsoft knows what they are doing. They have been at this game long enough to know how to make innovative technology. From them we have seen Windows, Xbox, Kinect and much more. One of the most talked about topics in the computer industry for 2012 is Windows 8. Sure you might think it is just another operating system, but with the new Metro UI things look quite differently from the traditional Windows experience. Think of it of a giant Windows Phone 7 using your mouse and keyboard. Add the power of a PC and you’ve got your operating system. Can this really succeed?
I definitely see a potential in the success of Windows 8. Sure it is different, but it is different in a good way. As we have seen practically everywhere, social media integration and apps are of popular demand for any new operating system. Windows 8 will bring this to the table similar to the growing Windows Phone 7, which just surpassed 50,000 apps. Microsoft has already said they want to bring apps to Windows 8 at the affordable prices and convenience of Windows Phone 7. If they succeed to support developers and convince them to design for Windows 8, I believe with time it will grow to be a very successful operating system and change the way we all view Windows.
But will this be for better or worse for the company? A big change could sway many consumers to look at the Mac OS. As Apple becomes a more popular household name many people could likely become Mac users. But it could also draw in customers board with the old Windows set up and who are looking for a change. Could this new, modern user interface be just what Microsoft needs to win over consumers in the next generation of operating systems? We will just have to wait and see!
