In the News, #2

By kelaidis, Posted 01 Sep 2009

Its been quite a while since I last blogged. I've been quite busy preparing for exams and I've finally started track cyclingSmile. Here a pic of the track. It's the only covered velorome in Africa and has a 42 degree embarkment and is 250m long.

Now for whats in the news...

eBay to sell skype

It is said that eBay has made a deal with private investors to sell Skype. Exact amouts that eBay want are yet to be released but in the past eBay has reported that they want around $2 billion for its VoIP application.

Diablo III, 4th character class revealed

No more backward compatibility for the PS3, EVER!

With rumors of the PlayStation 3 slim many gamers hoped that the PS3 might once again be able to play PlayStation 2 games. But unfortunately a PS3 that can play PS2 games is a thing of the past and "it's not coming back"  says Sony's John Koller.

What might shed some light on the subject is in order to play PS2 games the PS3 requires elements of older hardware to run as smooth as possible, which also requires a bunch of pre-release coding and Sony no longer feels it's worth the effort.

One possibility for gamers to get PS2 titles on their PS3 is if it eventually becomes available via digital distribution on PSN.

That track looks cool. What's your average speed? Do you race or just practice?

Some very good news you've put up. Indeed a good news for Wii fans.

  • @ RON: mmm... average speed, I've only been to practice twice so its hard to tell, and I don't have a cycling computer on my bike. But on Sunday I did the 500m time trail in 45 secs or about 40km/h. As for racing I'm having my first on next week tuesday.

500m in 45 sec is pretty good but I'm sure you'll have to speed up a little more to win the race. I hope you're a cycling pro and won't be breaking any of your bones. Good luck ;)

  • @ RON: That was only my first try and I wasn't warmed up very well, I'll give it another go Wednesday evening.

  • About the new PS3 firmware. I'm being nice: I don't like it...

  • @ canana: Any specific reason...?

  • Yeah, I just updated my Wii Internet Channel not 10 minutes ago. But hey, I got it free when it first came out. :P

One big issue I've always had with the PS3 was backwards compatibility... but if they're not going to do anything about it, well, they've just lost even more of my respect. So has Microsoft for not updating their backwards compatibility list for two years now.

  • Thanks for the news updates. GTA for iPhone and iPod :o Sounds weird!

  • Thanx for the news. Interesting stuff there. I still had some hopes for the backwards compatibility, but if that's the case, I won't get a PS3 :D ...

  • Thanks for the news kelaidis :) I found the last one the most important one. Looks like we 're gonna need a PS2 to play these kind of games. Even if Sony decided to make PS3 compatible with old PS2 games, this would mean the "kill" of selling PS2 consoles.
