Gravity Ghost Updated

Finally an ending to the game!

By Suburban, Posted 30 Sep 2013

Last week, I reviewed a game called Gravity Ghost by Ivy Games. It was not the most glowing of reviews, as I gave the game a final score of 60 out of our 100 point scale. This was largely in part due to a story that really didn't exist, giving the player no real purpose to complete the game, and the lack of save slots, turning the game into an endurance trial over time, rather than a fun escape, which should be the target of most any game, to be fun.

Now, most of the time when I review a game, it's unheard of to hear from the developer of the game on feedback, let alone that the feedback they received was heard, and therefore the game was changed.  Hell, it took a monumental effort from a very loud and angry fanbase to "alter" the Mass Effect 3 ending last year, and that wasn't a true change.  That was not the case with Ivy Games, however, who took the review and used it to make some alterations just in time for the game to go on pre-order yesterday.

I was informed that the Save slots still aren't in the game, but will be coming, however, there was a pretty major alteration to the star map.  Now, rather than just the last constellation being locked (aside from the salamander, where you start), all of the constellations are locked and you need to collect a certain number of stars to open them up.  While this took a little freedom of jumping around from map to map away, it gave the game way more sense of direction, and the star goals were attainable, rather than having to collect 60 stars to unlock the last constellation you now have to collect them in 5 star increments, 5 for the deer, 10 for the wolf, 15 for the rabbit, and so on.

While this is a small change on the surface it drastically changes the game.  Even without the save slots, it no longer feels like there's a daunting task to collect every single star to make some kind of progress.

Another change that came was the story mode, sort of.  While there's no longer the antler and bunny women at the beginning of the game, you see your character hanging out with a fox and then the fox disappears.  The ghost girl looks sad about this and then the game begins.  One notable thing about the Icarus System as well is that the fox isn't there, nowhere to be found, so from that and the updated opening, I believe we now have our overall game goal as well, to reunite with the fox.

The formerly long-winded guardians now don't say a word, in fact, there was no dialog to be found outside of the Icarus System maze planets.

Finally, Ivy Games has also added an ending to the game as well, which will give players that "I did it!" feeling that many look for when "beating" a game.

There is a new trailer to the game here. Once save slots are added and the game is finalized, I could probably see my initial rating of the game increase by at least 10 points to 70 or higher. Gravity Ghost is available for pre-order now, at gravityghost.com.
