Awaiting the Remake of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

Reminiscent in every way to Final Fantasy VII Remake, but clearly not funded on the same scale.

A full remake—and not only a cosmetic one—is in the works for the 90s Super Nintendo and Super Famicom game Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. Completely reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII Remake in style and design, although obviously lacking that game's enormous budget. That kind of funding is seldom granted. You should, however, not let it stop you from giving this title a try — particularly if you like non-linear role-playing games. Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is one of those series that fascinatingly subverts the genre and it becomes extremely apparent as you play.

Officials from Square Enix and Xeen Inc. have stated their intention to remain relatively true to the source material. Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven's lineage model is one of its distinctive features, and the developers have said that they want to retain it. This mechanism ensures that the game will cover more than one generation, in case you were pondering.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

First of all, who are you playing as? You take on the role of the vile emperor in line with the original Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. Now that he is the player’s self-insert, it is the former heroes who stand in your way. Your overarching goal as emperor is to bring the several realms under your control together. As an emperor, you may acquire new weapons, armor, and spells by establishing the capital city.

You have the power to elect the future emperor and bestow your authority on them. However, it is not an orderly procedure. Once the emperor's health reserves are depleted to zero—which occurs when your character loses all HP—inheritance may take place. Your total health points have a fixed quantity that changes based on your class and other factors like gender. Options that may replenish LP are also available, though not common.

Alternatively, you might abdicate by deciding to relinquish the throne. The title of Emperor may be assumed by any playable character. Their decision to hold onto this function is pretty clever and leaves one curious to see how it holds up in the revamped Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.

The combat system appears to have undergone the most significant alteration. It was a refined version of the turn-based combat system popularized by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Despite adopting what is known as a timeline-based system, it preserved several special characteristics.

You may level up your abilities by utilizing your weapons, and you will unlock more abilities as you play. There are a total of eight separate weapon classes and six unique magic types. A brand-new talent may be activated if you use an ability with a light bulb adjacent to it. You will then have the option to employ that skill whenever you determine. Another alternative is to launch a unified assault, which is like a limit breach in that it takes advantage of the enemy's shortcomings to succeed. I believe people will have a great time studying this arrangement because of how expansive it is.

The tale progresses linearly; your choices have no bearing on how the main plot of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven develops. Having said that, you will still have some agency over your actions. You may decide to go to other parts of the globe to address issues specific to those areas and you may solve the problems in an assortment of forms. The results will vary according to the sequence in which you complete them. This may dramatically change the emperor’s world. To illustrate, a kingdom could join your cause after a profitable coronation, or it could spark a civil war and lead to its complete collapse.

They have also made it simpler for players by adding accessibility settings, so there are multiple difficulty levels to choose from. You may change the Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven's complexity to suit your preferences, which is great for those who found the original too easy or for those who are looking for a true challenge.

A new, reworked soundtrack has also been included, allowing you to toggle between the two at will, which is a great touch. This has been done in several games by them.

Square Enix seems to have cracked the code for producing high-quality remakes of their titles. The older games hold a place dear to many players’ hearts, so it is incredible to be able to play them again with a different packaging. Needless to say, fans of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven may witness its best version yet with its release on 24 October 2024.
