By ForestHump, Posted 01 Jul 2009

We all know that the summer, well, it sucks for games. Nothing comes out, and whatever does is usually shovel wear. So, me ForestHump is here to the rescue. I have compiled a list of games for you that I reconmend you take a look at. For the purpose of this list and the interest of the members all games will be multiplatform on at least the 360 and PS3. Wii games are usualy dumbed down so I will try to provide the description of the Wii version seperate from the main description if applicable. Let us begin shall we. Keep in mind these are in no particular order. Please note - all games have been rewarded the coveted AOA Seal Of Approval... gander at its beuty. PS. The descriptions are from IGN and Wikipedia

Personal Notes

Hands down best game of the generation in my books. An spectacular world of adevnture, limitless possibilities and a ton of downloadable content most of which is included in the GOTY (Game of the Year) edition.

Battlefield: Bad Company

MSRP: $24.99 (360) / $29.99 (PS3)

Personal Notes

Ahh, you hear that, me to. That is the sound of freshness. This game offers a solid shooter experience, a familiar battlefield multiplayer, but yet, it is so new. The destruction in this game is hands down awesome.

Description

Bad Company puts the player in a fictional war between the United States and the Russian Federation, where players will lead a squad of soldiers fighting Russians, MEC (Middle East Coalition) troops and Legionnaire mercenaries. The game applies some new features to the franchise, including an environment that can be almost entirely destroyed, besides the very basic supports of buildings and certain metallic structures like antennae (while others, like cranes, are destroyable but very resilient)and a single-player storyline. The single player campaign and some multiplayer maps take place in Russia, the fictional Eastern European country of Serdaristan, and an unnamed fictional Middle Eastern country, in a city called Sadiz, which is located somewhere on the Caspian Sea.

Burnout Paradise

MSRP: $29.99 CAD

Personal Notes

Wow, just wow. This game is awesome, an expansive world, a authentic and amazing Burnout experience. Numerous substantial updates and content. Amazing, truely amazing.

Desription

The fifth entry in the gonzo racing series, Burnout Paradise gives players license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, the ultimate racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse. Gone is the need to jump in and out of menus and aimlessly search for fun like many open world games; in Burnout Paradise, every inch of the world is built to deliver heart-stopping Burnout-style gameplay. Every intersection is a potential crash junction and every alleyway is an opportunity to rack up moving violations. Feel the adrenaline course through your veins as you take to the road for the first time in Paradise City, where the action is all around you. Explore the city, discover events, and look for the best opportunities to crash, jump and pull signature takedowns. In Burnout Paradise you are given the keys to the city, but it's up to you to earn the keys to the meanest and most dangerous cars on the street, and earn your Burnout license.

Guitar Hero: World Tour

MSRP: $59.99 - $199.99

Personal Notes

Tried and true. Sure it is not as original as other games, sure it followed the full band experience after Rock Band, but hey. It works.

Description

Guitar Hero World Tour delivers more ways to play than ever before. Virtual musicians can live out their rock and roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument, or any combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience.

Bioshock

MSRP: $24.99

Personal Notes

A great experience.. once. I loved this game, I really did, I only had one problem. After one playthrough, i was done. It has a great mix of shooter and horror componets that mesh to create a great game, just not more than one playthroughs worth.

Description

BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges the players' capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and commitment to the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.

Fifa 09

MSRP: $59.99

Personal Notes

I do not own this game, or any other soccer game. I never will. But hey, I am the only one here it seems with that opinion. So congrats to you for persuading me to put it in. You sneaky people :)

Description

Powered by the third generation of the EA SPORTS football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it. With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

Grand Theft Auto 4

MSRP: $59.99

Personal Notes

In my mind not quite as fun as San Adreas but man, is it amazing. Great times to be had.

Still, the wealth, the comfort, the bliss of the good life, it all really is here ... And it's all for the taking.

Fallout 3

MSRP: $59.99

Personal Notes

I was expecting Oblivion with guns, that would have been awesome, it is not that at all. It is still awesome though.

Resident Evil 5

MSRP: $59.99

Personal Notes

I enjoy it, that simple. Controls still suck, multiplayer is meh, but Co-Op and single player knocks it out of the park.

Description

Produced by series veteran Jun Takeuchi, this next-generation follow-up to the terrifying series introduces the theme of escape as its core survival instinct. As Chris Redfield (former S.T.A.R.S. member and now part of the BSAA unit), your life is in danger as you strive to complete your most dangerous mission yet in a sweltering desert colony where a new breed of evil has been unleashed. Swarms of marauding evil beings will charge at you when your pulse is racing at a heart-shattering pace. Environments will play a bigger factor than ever here, using the power of next-gen systems to create a world where terror might lurk in any alcove or shadow. Powerful lighting effects overwhelm the player with mirage movement and blinding brilliance, and even in the light of day, there is no safe haven in this Resident Evil.

NHL 09

MSRP: $49.99

Personal Notes

Look, it's hockey. You either enjoy it or you don't.

The Orange Box

MSRP: $39.99

Personal Notes

What a great package. 5 games, one box. The best value ever offered. It is not like the games are crap either. 5 Top teir titles, Half Life 2, Half life 2: Episode 1, Half Life 2: Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

Description

This package is a near-complete package of the Half-Life 2 phenomenon, packed with bonuses in addition to the genre-expanding original Half-Life 2 game. Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two add-on levels are also on the disc, as are the stunningly complex puzzle game Portal and the online phenomenon Team Fortress 2.

Well I hope you enjoyed this. I sure did. These games are all truely amazing in their own respects. If any seem interesting to you, please do not hesitate to at least rent them. Give em a try, why not?
