Racing fans and fans of abstract art, if such two worlds collide at all, may I have your attention, please? If your thirst for some speed has not yet been quenched and you feel the need to have a more cultured spin, then do I have news for you.
Slick is an understatement when talking about Proun.
Some months ago, I picked up on a game called Proun, but being busy as hell trying to review games for you, I couldn’t get into it. I did however mail Joost "Oogst" van Dongen to see how he was doing with the game and he mentioned releasing sometime in June. We are June right now. And as such, this surreal roller is set out to come out on June 24 in a Pay What You Want deal!
Now, there are a few reasons why I got interested in this. One, Joost is part of Ronimo Games, which made games like de Blob and are currently working on their title Awesomenauts. This means that the man knows quality. Secondly, this racing game is an entirely new spin on the genre or at least more original than the thirteenth in a dozen tuning racer. It’s simple, yet so refined and it looks great and that for a game that the man took upon himself to create in his spare time. You don’t see Cliffy B making a cooking simulator when he’s not drinking like a sailor at parties.
And finally, I think you should all take a look at the game, no matter what your preference is, simply because Joost has some sound ideas. Here’s a memorable quote from his blog post: “Some people may complain that Proun doesn't have as many tracks as Need for Speed 37, but I personally think games don't always have to be big, just as they don't always have to be expensive. - My favourite game of the past 10 years is Machinarium.” You hear that? Machinarium is awesome. Even I couldn’t find anything wrong with it and I suck at puzzle games.
Be sure to pick it up on the 24th,because this indie project deserves your attention.
