Electronics Arts has announced that a glut of their previous-generation sports games are having their on-line play support shut down in the coming months. Some of the older titles are not so shocking to see on the list such as FIFA 07 and NCAA Football 07 for Xbox 360, but a couple of 2010 titles are getting the axe as well. Madden 10 for the PSP, Playstation 2, and Wii are all being cut off, as well as the PSP and Wii versions of 2010 FIFA World Cup and the Playstation 2 version of NCAA Football 10.

Also, as a result of an expired licensing deal, on-line support for the EA-branded Lord of the Rings games will be shut down.

Although that's quite the laundry list of EA Sports titles, EA stated that these titles in particular "represent roughly 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles," and that they "would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games."

  • Yup, saw this earlier, I think it's a crying shame, but what you gonna do? People always just play the latest title blindly anyway; No money off my back.

This is inevitable. A little discount for purchasing recent titles would've encouraged a little perhaps.

  • The servers for The Lord of the Rings were close few months back if I'm not mistaken and now this whole bunch of games. Not complaining though. All of them are pretty old titles anyway except for 2010 FIFA World Cup, which doesn't sound not too old.

  • @Amaya Three of the Lord of the Rings titles servers were closed on Dec. 31st, with the final two closing on Jan 11th. Prior to that, it looks like the only LOTR title taken down was The Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

  • Odd, but it makes since if that's only 1% of your online communtiy. I really can't imagen that 1% is playing them frequently either, it's probibly just the people who randomly pop the game in and play a little bit.

  • I would love to see them take down a Battlefield games, just my enjoyment.  But of course bring them back on-line.
